Rwanda: Police Volleyball Club Launches Youth Volleyball Academy.

Police Volleyball Club has officially launched its youth academy for both boys and girls, which will operate at Lycée de Kigali.

The launch event took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

It was attended by various officials, including the President of the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB), Ngarambe Raphael, and Vice President Zawadi Geoffrey. Also present were the Secretary General of Police VC, Superintendent Ntakirutimana Diane, and the Head of Lycée de Kigali, Brother Imfurayase Jean. Players from both the men’s and women’s Police VC teams were also in attendance.

The academy will cater to children aged between 12 and 16 years, with the expectation that they will begin yielding results within the next four years.

Police plans to scout talent across the country and bring promising young players to study and develop their skills at Lycée de Kigali.

The Head of Lycée de Kigali, Brother Imfurayase Jean, thanked the Police for their trust and promised full support.

He said, “We are grateful that among all schools in Kigali, you chose Lycée de Kigali. We are here and ready to work with you. We are happy to see volleyball return so quickly; you can count on us as a strong team.”

The Secretary General of Police VC, Superintendent Ntakirutimana Diane, expressed optimism about the academy’s future.

She said, “We believe these young players will grow into great athletes with discipline, dedication, and commitment.”

The President of FRVB, Ngarambe Raphael, thanked the Police for being the first club to implement the resolutions from the recent general assembly.

That assembly decided that starting next year, no team will be allowed to compete in the First Division unless it has a youth academy—aiming to promote the sport and prepare for its future.

The academy will be led by experienced Police coaches: girls will be trained by Masumbuko Jean De Dieu, and boys by Iradukunda Yves.

Essential equipment provided included playing kits, volleyballs, and nets.
