Cameroon: Samuel Eto’o Accused of Corruption.

Samuel Eto’o, the former football legend and current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has been accused of embezzling funds belonging to the federation.

The allegations claim that Eto’o transferred €455,000 into his personal bank account. This money had been provided by the Russian Football Federation to support the organization of a friendly match in 2023 between the Cameroon national team (the Indomitable Lions) and a Russian team.

The funds were meant for the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), but instead ended up in Eto’o’s personal account.

The complaint, filed on Monday, June 23, 2025, accuses Eto’o of misappropriating hundreds of millions of CFA francs. The accusation was made public by Guibai Gatama, a member of the FECAFOOT executive committee.

Gatama stated that he submitted the complaint against President Samuel Eto’o to the Cameroonian Sports Ethics and Disciplinary Commission, citing findings from a recent financial audit of the federation.

The audit revealed that the funds in question—originally provided by the Russian Football Federation to support the preparation of the 2023 friendly match—had not been used properly.

The transaction was reportedly approved by the Emergency Decision Committee of FECAFOOT, which normally oversees urgent matters within the federation.
