Yago and his wife Their love ended by tears 3 weeks after getting their first born.

Artist and journalist Nyarwaya Innocent, widely known as Yago, has announced that he has separated from his wife Teta Christa, just three weeks after the birth of their first child. The news broke the hearts of many, especially since their love had recently been portrayed as exemplary and deeply rooted.

In an Instagram live session on the night of Tuesday, June 25, 2025, Yago spoke calmly but emotionally, confirming that his relationship with his wife had ended. He emphasized that the news circulating about him was not a “prank” to promote his new album Yago Life II, but rather a painful truth.

He said:

> “This woman I loved — we’re no longer together. I think it’s now official, especially since I’m the one saying it. I thank God that she and the baby are doing well with her family.”

Yago explained that he was caught off guard by how things unfolded, revealing that his wife left him while he was away at work.

> “She said goodbye while I wasn’t home. I had gone to work. She sent me a message saying she was leaving. I never chased her away, and I never hit her.”

Although he couldn’t confirm the exact reasons behind her decision, he suspected she might have suffered from postpartum depression. He added that the separation hit him hard, especially because he felt it should have been a time to celebrate the birth of their child, not to part ways.

Despite being heartbroken, Yago stated that he would not beg for love or force reconciliation.

> “I truly love her. Any mistakes I may have made in love don’t mean I didn’t love genuinely. There is no love without respect.”

The journalist-turned-musician was visibly emotional, often pausing during his speech. He mentioned that he fought for their love, and when she finally said goodbye, he initially thought he was dreaming — but it turned out to be real.

> “The way that sword pierced me — someone taking a three-week-old baby right after we left the hospital?”

Yago Pon Dat said he never imagined their love would end this way, as he loved her deeply:

> “I loved her so much that I felt like I couldn’t love another woman that way. When someone gives birth for you, there’s a level of respect you must have for them.”

He also made it clear that he wasn’t sharing this to promote his album but to clarify the situation since he had publicly announced his relationship with Christa.

Yago expressed his pain over seeing some people rejoice at his family’s struggles, but he said it wouldn’t discourage him:

He also addressed recent rumors that he found out the child wasn’t his, responding firmly:

> “No! That child is mine, and he will live well. His mother will also be okay, because I’m a working man, not a beggar. My son will be well taken care of.”

He said he chose to work harder instead of drowning in sorrow or self-pity. He confirmed he would soon release a 16-track album but reiterated that this breakup announcement had nothing to do with promoting it.

> “I fought for love, but it didn’t work. I will never kill myself because love failed. For those struggling in their relationships, I feel for you — stay strong.”

In closing, Yago said he is putting his faith in prayer and God’s will regarding his future in love:

> “I gave everything. I don’t want anyone to think I’m begging for forgiveness. I just want God to give me an answer: if Teta is the one, may we be reunited. If she isn’t, may He send me someone new.”

Yago’s heartfelt message was filled with pain from a wounded love, but it also highlighted his decision to move forward, raise his child responsibly, and continue contributing to Rwandan music.
